If you tell yourself often enough that you are a poor server, a kind of hypnotic process takes place. Then Self 2 begins to live up to these expectations. ![]() That is, they are communications from Self 1 about Self 2 which, after being repeated often enough, become rigidified into expectations or even convictions about Self 2. As a result, what usually happens is that these self-judgments become self-fulfilling prophecies. ![]() It may begin by complaining, “What a lousy serve,” then extend to, “I’m serving badly today.” After a few more “bad” serves, the judgment may become further extended to “I have a terrible serve.” Then, “I’m a lousy tennis player,” and finally, “I’m no good.” First the mind judges the event, then groups events, then identifies with the combined event and finally judges itself. “It is interesting to see how the judgmental mind extends itself. ![]()

The writing of this is often beautiful, but not too flowery. All these points of view are revealed through the eyes of the Muse of epic poetry, Calliope, as she seeks to show an aged Homer the perspectives of those he has overlooked. In A Thousand Ships, we follow the women who lived alongside those men, seeing through their eyes and experiencing their side of the story. In Homer’s famous epic poems, The Iliad and The Odyssey, we follow various men who go to war, face loss and destruction, and battle many obstacles to return home. ![]() Since this version is just a proof and not the final version, I won’t quote directly and will keep my comments general. ![]() I received an advance reader’s copy (ARC) of A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes. ![]() ![]() ![]() So, qntm, you have a few books in the broader sci-fi genre, how did you get into writing, and who the biggest influences to your writing? ![]() He is the author of Ra, Fine Structure, Ed, and most recently, There Is No Antimemetics Division. For an incredible amount of time, it was just a hobby, but he’s now at the point where it’s a full-on side gig. He’s been writing science fiction in his spare time since he was in secondary school. He is educated in mathematics and now develops software for a living. The author known as qntm was born in the UK and still lives there. So, I’m excited to share with you all the conversation I had with qntm! After my sleuthing, I found qntm’s website and reached out for a chat. When I finished reading the book, I did a bit of digging online and learned about the wide genre of SCP fiction (Special Containment Procedures), of which There Is No Antimemetics Division is a part of. ![]() The story focuses on the members of the Foundation as they fight to save Earth from the titular antimemes, which are elusive, memory-altering entities intent on destroying humanity. I stumbled across it while browsing the Kindle store and I was immediately hooked from the premise. I recently had the pleasure of reading There Is No Antimemetics Division, a paranormal sci-fi novel. ![]() ![]() Hahn's Stepping on the Cracks, 1991, which probes much deeper into this issue). Norah develops a fervent crush on Andrew, a kind boy who (after he notices) preserves his friendly demeanor with admirable tact he even confides his horror of killing to Norah alone, so that his later decision to join up comes as a shock to her (cf. Both copies with gilt top edge and copies with plain top edge appear with this word both perfect and battered: therefore, although it is generally assumed that "wearily" became battered during the 6000-copy print run (though it's possible it became battered and was then fixed), one cannot assume that the 2500 copies with gilt top edge were printed or issued earlier than the 3500 copies with plain top edge. VERY PREPARED AS IT'S AN EPIC RIDEįirstly, if you'd asked me at the start of this listen what my opinion was then I would have said awful 1 star raw, gritty, toxic, dark and downright violent. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Mass, he writes, “is simply the ultimate type of condensed or concentrated energy,” whereas energy “is what billows out as an alternate form of mass under the right circumstances.” Just what those circumstances are occupies much of Bodanis’s book, which pays homage to Einstein and, just as important, to predecessors such as Maxwell, Faraday, and Lavoisier, who are not as well known as Einstein today. David Bodanis offers an easily grasped gloss on the equation.
